George Petrides (b. 1964, Athens) is a contemporary sculptor known for his public works and traveling exhibitions. Based between Athens and New York, his practice explores the intersection of personal narrative, cultural heritage, and technological innovation through fabrication processes that emphasize sustainable materials.
As of April 2026, Petrides has completed more than 30 permanent installations across eight countries. His sculptures are held in corporate, educational, governmental, healthcare, and religious settings. His portfolio ranges from monumental outdoor works to mid-scale sculptures for interior public spaces.
Hellenic Heads: A Personal Exploration of Greek History and Culture is a major traveling sculpture exhibition. By April 2026, it had been presented at eight venues across the United States, Asia, and Europe, reaching more than 100,000 visitors. Presently in Paris, the exhibition will travel to Berlin and two additional cities, for a total of 12 venues over six years.
Petrides’ work brings together ancient traditions and 21st-century fabrication. Each project begins in clay, then moves through 3D scanning and digital sculpting before being realized through printing in eco-responsible and upcycled materials. Whether completed in bronze or contemporary metal finishes, his works are engineered for permanence.
Petrides studied at Harvard College, where he earned a B.A. in Classics (1985), and at Stanford University, where he completed an MBA and MA (1993). This background grounds his artistic research and supports the demands of large-scale public art projects.
Before devoting himself fully to sculpture, Petrides had a first career in finance, where he served as a Managing Director at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette. After two decades of parallel artistic development, he returned fully to his original vocation and has emerged as a distinctive voice in contemporary art.
